Management research awards

The Faculty of听Management听presented听the听2019/2020听Research Awards听during a virtual ceremony in February.听

Rising Research Star: Qi Deng听

The Rising Research Star award is given听to听a听tenure-track听Faculty of Management听researcher. It is based primarily on the number and quality of publications accepted听as well as grants听awarded during the previous academic year.听

Qi Deng is an assistant professor in the Rowe School of Business鈥檚听Technology, Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship听group whose research听interests include social media analytics, brand linguistics and digital marketing. In 2019/2020 academic year, he听published听three听articles in high-quality marketing journals, and had two publications in conference proceedings for the International Conference on Systems Sciences, which is considered one of the two top conferences in his field.

Research Star: Jenny Zhang听

The Research Star听award is given听to听a听tenured听Faculty of Management听researcher.听It is based primarily on the number and quality of publications accepted as well as grants awarded during the previous academic year.

Jenny Zhang is an associate professor in the Rowe School of Business鈥檚 Accounting group听whose research includes the examination of financial reporting quality in relation to audit-related issues, accrual versus real earnings management, corporate governance, regulation implication, labour investment, accounting conservatism and dividend policy. Last year, she published three articles in top-ranked journals. Her article in the Journal of Corporate Finance offers new evidence regarding the unintended and adverse consequences of the Inevitable Disclosure Doctrine ruling on corporate disclosure policy.

Impact Award: Karen Beazley

The Impact Award is听given听to a听Faculty of Management听researcher in recognition of their overall lifetime achievement to date. This decision is guided by traditional research metrics, such as impact factors and citations听and听additional considerations of the nature of the impact.

Karen听Beazley is a听professor听in the School for Resource and Environmental Studies who听studies biodiversity conservation system planning,听Indigenous-protected and conserved areas and co-production of knowledge.听In addition听to her publication and citation rate,听the awards committee was听impressed with her knowledge co-creation and dissemination efforts with Indigenous communities听as well as how听she elects dissemination venues that reach the audiences often marginalized in academia.
